For my husband birthday each year I make him the same German Chocolate Cake (his fave), but this year I decided to mix it up a bit and try something new. It is not the most beautiful cake, but it is delicious!! It was a huge hit!
Chocolate Vanilla Cream Cakechocolate cake mix
Make into 2 round cakes as directed on the box. Cool.
Filling:
8 oz cream cheese softened
1 (3.4 oz.)package French Vanilla instant pudding mix (or vanilla)
1 1/2 cups milk
Put all ingredients in the mixer and beat until filling is thick and smooth.
Place one cake round upside down onto a cake platter or large plate.
Top with the pudding mixture. (There will be lots which is a good thing because it is so delicious.) The pudding mixture settles a bit after being refrigerated.
Place second cake on top of the pudding mixture.
Place in the refrigerator. Make glaze.
Glaze:
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup cocoa powder
3 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a saucepan over medium heat, add butter, cocoa powder and milk. Let butter melt and bring to a simmer (until all the ingredients are combined together). Remove from heat and slowly add the vanilla and powdered sugar whisking until smooth. Allow to cool slightly until a thick pourable texture is achieved. Take cake out of fridge and pour glaze over the cake allowing it to run down the sides.
Place cake back in the fridge for about 4 hours before slicing and eating. (We didn't wait that long)
The glaze is amazing!!
Oh yum!!
I have never before heard of using cream cheese and pudding!! What a great idea. I've gotta remember this for a birthday cake! :-)
