My Faux-Pie Experiment

As I talked earlier I decided to treat my family to a "little" April Fool's surprise.  I found a recipe for Fauxberry Pie over at Family Fun.  I loved the idea, but after reading the recipe decided I needed to make a lot of changes so my family would eat it.  I knew with the changes it probably would not look the same, but I wanted something that we would eat not waste.  So here's what I came up with:

Faux-Pie
1 can biscuits
1 1/4 pounds hamburger
1/4 cup onion, diced
1/3 cup barbecue sauce
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
2 cups mashed potatoes
red food coloring
Grease pie plate and place biscuit dough on the bottom of the pan.  Press them together.

Brown hamburger and onion.  Drain and then add barbecue sauce.  Mix and season with salt and pepper to taste.  Add egg and cheddar cheese.  Stir to mix well.  Place in pan over top of biscuits.
Add 8-10 drops of red food coloring to prepared mashed potatoes. Mix until desired color is obtained.
Spread on top of meat layer.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. (You may need to cook it a few minutes longer if refrigerated.)
Serve to your unsuspecting family.
I told my kids I had made a Baked Alaska (knowing they don't know what it looks like.).  I had to cook it right away so we would be trying it out first before we had dinner.
When I placed it on the table my oldest daughter was the only one sitting there.  She looked it over.  Then I cut the pie and she exclaimed "It's not dessert it's dinner!!"
When my husband came home they all had to tell him that I April Fooled them!  It was pretty cute!
It was an easy fun dinner that we all enjoyed.  There was none leftover!!
